COOLING SYSTEMS

Goals & Objectives

The goals of this course are: (1) to provide pertinent information on the common types of cooling systems and (2) to provide inspection guidelines to aid the home inspector in evaluating the condition of cooling systems commonly encountered in residential construction.

Upon completion of this course the student should be able to:

  1. Understand the principles of cooling of indoor spaces. 

  2. Identify and describe the major components of cooling systems.

  3. Identify and describe the operation of cooling systems.

  4. Identify and describe energy sources for cooling equipment. 

  5. Operate common cooling equipment using standard controls.

  6. Identify common cooling system concerns and defects.

  7. Evaluate the condition of cooling equipment.

  8. Assess the various distribution methods used to provide cooling throughout a house.

  9. Utilize common reporting approaches to inform a homebuyer of inspection finding.
